ALPHA K9 U, LLC POLICIES & PROCEDURES
All dogs visiting our campus must be current on routine preventative health care for contagious diseases. A licensed veterinarian must provide vaccinations and negative parasite tests (as outlined below) to ensure adequate protection. Dogs will not be permitted entry without prior proof of vaccinations and parasite test results—this includes, but is not limited to, tours.
To ensure the safety of your pets and our other guests, we require that all employees and guests adhere to the following Policies & Procedures:
ALPHA K9 U - WELLNESS POLICY - ALL SERVICES
We have set high standards at Alpha K9 U and implemented strict health and safety requirements for a good reason—we are committed to keeping all our pets safe and healthy! If we fail to require protection against contagious diseases and parasites, we cannot promise your pet the safest environment possible.
We thank you in advance for helping us keep our canine companions healthy and safe!
VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS
Alpha K9 U requires Rabies, DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus), and Bordetella. For your canine's safety and well-being, please allow a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours after receiving vaccinations such as Distemper and Rabies and up to fourteen (14) days after receiving a Bordetella vaccine for maximum effect before entry. Vaccinations must be administered by a licensed veterinarian (we do not accept home vaccinations), and documentation is required before entry into the Alpha K9 U campus/facility.
If the Bordetella vaccine has never been given, has expired, or was given via intranasal (drops in the nose), it must be administered at least FOURTEEN (14) DAYS before arrival at Alpha K9 U. If the Bordetella vaccine is bolstered, a minimum of FIVE (5) DAYS is required before entry.
Puppies are required to have their second set of DHPP Bordetella vaccinations and are required to have their Rabies vaccination (at 12 weeks of age).
PARASITE TESTING (FECAL FLOTATION AND GIARDIA TESTS)
A negative Fecal Float is required for all guests utilizing services. In addition, a negative Giardia Fecal Test is required for ALL DOGS utilizing our Aquatic Center and ALL PUPPIES - up to ten (10) months of age - before entry at Alpha K9 U.
Helpful Hint: If your pet needs a giardia test, ask your vet to perform both fecal tests on the single stool specimen you provide.
PARASITE TESTING (FECAL FLOTATION & GIARDIA TEST) - BRIEF Q&A
What are the Benefits of Fecal Flotation and Giardia Testing?
Although some pets infected with intestinal parasites develop diarrhea or other clinical signs, many pets don't show any signs at all. The only way to identify and treat infected pets is to test them periodically for evidence of infection.
Why does Alpha K9 U have a Giardia policy in place?
Although it is only sometimes convenient, policies and processes are developed and implemented for the safety and well-being of our canine companions and guests. The high prevalence factor combined with the ability of giardia cysts to survive outside the pet within any environment for long periods is just one of the many reasons this policy is in place. Moreover, since the giardia parasite thrives in relaxed, damp environments, we must be more vigilant because pets are in or around water and humid environments, such as the Alpha K9 U Aquatic Center.
Are there separate and special testing procedures for Giardia?
Beyond a routine fecal examination, unique diagnostic procedures are necessary to identify Giardia. But there is only one perfect test for Giardia. Giardia is an elusive parasite, and cysts are shed only intermittently from the gastrointestinal tract of an infected dog. It will be at the Veterinarian's discretion to determine which Giardia testing/procedures should be utilized due to the specific circumstances of each pet. Some veterinarians perform fecal testing in the office so that results may be available the same day. Other practices use an outside laboratory for diagnostic testing, so results may take a few days.
What if your pet tests positive for Giardia?
If your pet has tested positive for Giardia, hopefully, it has cleared the infection successfully after treatment. However, Alpha K9 U requires a follow-up test to provide the best information about whether the infection is completely cleared. Again, the vital thing to note is that giardia cysts aren't passed in every stool sample, so additional tests are necessary to ensure the infection is entirely resolved.
IT IS SOLELY UP TO YOUR VETERINARIAN TO INTERPRET THE TEST RESULTS, considering your pet's medical history and specific signs or symptoms, if any. Please be aware that different testing procedures may produce varying results; regardless, if your veterinarian has determined that your pet is free of all parasites, including Giardia, they may make a notation /document and "sign-off" stating that a "negative" diagnosis has been determined on that date/time.
DAYCARE
Applicable Forms: All dogs must have complete, up-to-date Vaccinations, Negative Fecal Test Results, an Emergency Veterinarian Release Form, and a Services Agreement on file.
Reservations: We require reservations due to the limited number of reserved spaces available in the daycare. Please cancel your reserved spot if you are unable to use it.
Behavior: All dogs must be non-aggressive and non-protective of food or toys while in daycare. Owners will certify their dogs have not harmed or shown any aggressive or threatening behavior towards any person or any other dogs. Please remember that your pet will be spending time with other pets, and the safety and health of the pack are our primary concerns. Also, dogs who hump excessively, bark excessively, bare teeth, snarl, growl, potty inside, or exhibit other non-friendly/nervous behavior may be turned away from service.
Drop-Off/Pick-Up: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (No Arrivals/Departures from 1:30 p.m. -2:30 p.m.). Your pet must be dropped off and picked up during our open-to-the-public hours (Lobby/Office Hours). A late check-out fee of $15.00 will apply if picked up after 6:00 p.m. and before 6:30 p.m.; dogs not picked up by 6:30 p.m. will be boarded overnight, and overnight boarding fees will apply.

Owners will certify that their dogs are in good health and have not been ill in a communicable condition in the last thirty (30) days. Dogs that have been ill in a communicable condition in the previous thirty (30) days will require a veterinary certificate of health to be admitted or re-admitted.

Excessive barking dogs will be dismissed from daycare because excessive barking can escalate the intensity of the pack dynamic. We reserve the right to refuse reentry.
Spay/Neuter: All dogs over six (6) months of age should be spayed or neutered to socialize with the other dogs in daycare. Puppies younger than six (6) months may be intact.
Females in Heat: Females in heat tend to stress out males staying at Alpha K9 U; consequently, females in heat will not be allowed in daycare, classes, or boarding at any time. Additional charges may occur during your pet's stay if they come into season at our facility and must be picked up immediately.
